Urinalysis with Microscopy if Indicated Update (Inpatient and Emergency)

Effective October 7, 2026, 10:00, the Urinalysis with Microscopy if Indicated (LAB12321026) order will be updated. The reflex-to-microscopy criteria for this order have been revised to reduce unnecessary microscopies. In addition, duplicate urinalysis (UA) orders will be discontinued. Ambulatory and Outreach physicians and APPs will receive separate guidance.

New Test: Antiphospholipid Antibody Panel (Inpatient and Emergency Department)

Effective March 4, 2026, an Antiphospholipid Antibody Panel will be available for adult patients in the emergency, observation, and inpatient settings across the Corewell Health System.

This update is intended to streamline the ordering of appropriate hypercoagulation and thrombophilia testing in alignment with current evidence‑based best practices.

Hypercoagulation/Thrombophilia Tests No Longer Available for Adult Emergency Room (ED) and Inpatient

Effective 10/29/2025, hypercoagulation/thrombophilia test ordering will no longer be available in the adult inpatient and emergency department settings at Corewell Health West.

This change aligns the hospital system with the American Society of Hematology Choosing Wisely initiative. This will decrease unnecessary costly testing in the inpatient setting and help to prevent inappropriate diagnoses. Continue Reading
