For Hemoglobin A1c testing, Mayo Clinic Laboratory has switched to an Ion-Exchange High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method (Bio-RAD D100) which is the same method of A1c testing used at Spectrum Health Regional Laboratory. They no longer offer the alternative method, boronate affinity chromatography, for A1c testing.
When A1c cannot be determined due to interferences that affect the Bio-RAD 100 method, measurement of serum fructosamine is recommended (Mayo test FRUCT).
Spectrum Health Regional Laboratory is not validated to perform Chlamydia and Gonococcus testing on pediatric patients under the age of 14 years old. Testing for these patients must be sent to a reference laboratory. Please order a Reference Miscellaneous Test (#LAB848) and indicate complete test name when ordering.
Tests not performed by Spectrum Health Regional Laboratories (SHRL) will be sent to an appropriate reference laboratory. Mayo Medical Laboratories is our major reference lab; however, not all tests are performed at that location. Please refer to the laboratory test catalog for specific testing locations.
