Please ensure your office has the appropriate collection supplies available if you anticipate ordering this test.
Test: Cyclospora Stain, Feces (LAB3245)
Performed by: Mayo Clinic Laboratories
Testing Schedule: Monday–Saturday, with a turnaround time of 2–4 days after receipt at the performing laboratory.
Collection Requirements
Patient Preparation: Patient should avoid use of antidiarrheal medication (e.g., loperamide [Imodium-AD] or Pepto-Bismol). The presence of barium will interfere with this test.
Submit one of the following specimen types:
• Preferred: 10g Stool collected in an ECOFIX® Stool Transport Vial
· Minimum volume: 1g preserved stool.
· Stable for up to 21 days at ambient or refrigerated temperature.
• Acceptable: 10g Stool collected in a Sodium Acetate Formalin (SAF) vial (part of the Stool Kit)
· Minimum volume: 1g preserved stool.
· Stable for up to 21 days at ambient or refrigerated temperature.
• Acceptable: 10g Stool collected in a 10% Buffered Neutral Formalin vial
· Minimum volume: 1g preserved stool.
· Stable for up to 21 days at ambient or refrigerated temperature.
• Also Acceptable: 5g unpreserved stool collected in a sterile stool container.
· Specimen must be refrigerated and returned to a hospital laboratory within 48 hours after collection. Do not collect or submit specimens on Saturdays.
