New Test: HPV High Risk Screen with HPV Genotype Reflex

Effective August 26, 2024,  Corewell Health Laboratories West will be updating their High-Risk HPV testing.  The new assay will be performed on the Abbott Alinity m at Corewell Health Reference Laboratory West, Grand Rapids.  Testing will now automatically include HPV Genotype results whenever HPV is detected.  There will no longer be a separate charge to the patient for HPV Genotype testing.

There will also be an expanded number of High-Risk HPV Genotypes reported:

  • HPV Genotype 16
  • HPV Genotype 18
  • HPV Genotype 45
  • HPV Genotype 31/33/52/58
  • HPV Genotype 35/39/51/56/59/66/68

The new assay is FDA approved for Primary screening in addition to co-testing.

Post hysterectomy vaginal specimens will still be a send out test (LAB1230722). Continue Reading

Discontinuation Pyruvic Acid

Effective Wednesday, November 29, 2023, the in-house test, Pyruvic Acid, will be made inactive. Recommended alternative testing is Pyruvic Acid, Blood [LAB1231461] which is referred to Mayo Clinic Laboratories. Please review the lab catalog for information on new specimen requirements and updated reference range information. Due to the update in reference ranges, this may disrupt trending data.

New Test: UFH Anti-IIa

Effective August 23, 2023, Corewell Health Coagulation Laboratory will go live with UFH Anti-IIa testing.

The Anti-IIa 2 stage heparin assay is a chromogenic assay for measuring the activity of unfractionated heparin.  This method only tests unfractionated heparin.

This heparin assay is a two stage Anti IIa ( 2 Stages Heparin Assay) based on the inhibition of a constant amount of Thrombin (IIa) by the tested heparin in the presence of exogenous antithrombin. Continue Reading

Update to Vitamin D Testing

Effective February 28th, 2023, Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy Level (25-OH Vitamin D) [LAB535] will be replaced by 25-Hydroxyvitamin Level D2 and D3 [LAB1230925]. Send out testing for 25-Hydroxyvitamin D2 and D3, Serum [LAB1230428] to Mayo will be discontinued. The testing methodology will change from an immunoassay to liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

The new test will include concentrations for

  • 25-hydroxyvitamin D2
  • 25-hydroxyvitamin D3
  • 25-hydroxyvitamin D Total
